Prices are in Canadian dollars. The range comes from satellite measurements and runs $0.95 to $1.15 per square foot of roof, built around my typical price of about $2,100 for a 2,000 sq ft roof. How We Calculate This
The calculator keeps the math simple and leans low on purpose. Every assumption and where it comes from:
- Replacement cost
- $10,000 for a 2,000 sq ft roof, scaled to your roof size. That is the bottom of the "$10,000 and up" figure on the cost page. If you enter a replacement quote, your number is used instead.
- Roof life
- About 20 years for an asphalt shingle roof, the figure in the National Association of Home Builders and Bank of America Home Equity Study of Life Expectancy of Home Components (February 2007). Sun, slope, colour and attic ventilation can move a real roof either way.
- Years left
- 20 years minus the age of your roof, never less than zero.
- Life added by one treatment
- 5 years. Roof Rejuvenate Canada puts the gain at 5 to 15 years of extra shingle life. The calculator uses the low end, which is also the length of the written warranty.
- Cost per year of a new roof
- Replacement cost divided by the 20 years a new roof lasts.
- Cost per extra year from one treatment
- One treatment at my standard rate for your roof size, divided by the 5 years it adds.
- Percent less
- How much less each extra year from a treatment costs than each year of a new roof. If a treatment year would cost the same or more, the calculator suggests a free roof check instead of a number.
- One treatment only
- The calculator counts a single treatment. It does not count repeat treatments.
- Roof age range
- It shows a saving for roofs 10 to 25 years old, the ages I most often look at. Outside that range the answer depends on the shingles, so it suggests a free roof check instead. See is my roof a candidate.
- Left out
- Inflation, interest and repairs. All results are estimates, not a quote or a guarantee.

How the Instant Estimate Works
Type your address.
The tool finds your house on satellite imagery and traces the roof. If it grabs the garage or the neighbour's place, drag the corners until the outline sits on your roof.
Pick the pitch and the stories.
A steeper roof has more surface than the footprint of the house, so the area and the range grow with the slope.
See your range.
Leave your name and number to see the dollar range. It comes straight to me, and I follow up to ask for the two photos.
What a Satellite Cannot See
A satellite picture shows the size and shape of your roof. It cannot show whether the shingles still bend, how many granules are left or whether a cracked tab means the roof is past saving. That is why the number on this page is a starting point and the candidate check comes before any price is final. If your roof is too far gone for treatment, I will say so instead of quoting it.
